You may have noticed something new outside Queensferry Parish Church halls now that you have returned from your summer break! Yes – we now have a bike rack and we are asking all hall bookings to pass this on to their members. There is enough space for at least 10 bikes, so plenty of space for your members to arrive by bike.
Why cycle to the church halls?
Well its better for you, its better for the environment AND it solves the parking problem on The Loan.
I’m not sure about security?
Cycle Scotland both funded the bike rack (thank you!) and advised on its location. It is better at the front of the church as bike thieves like a quiet and dark corner to work. We do advise using a good quality bike lock of course and the racks give a safe and sturdy location to lock your bike to. We are going to be installing an outside light as well, when it starts getting a little darker at night.
What about safety on the roads?
We are only a stones throw from both National Cycle Route 1 and 76 as well as the off road railway path. We do advise all cyclists to follow the highway code of course.
A uniformed organisation? Do you have a cycling badge?
Wonderful – we hope access to the bike racks will help your members to bring their bikes and gain any cycling badges you have.
Not quite in your youth?
Cycling is for everyone! Dust off that old bike or get one second hand. E Bikes are great for managing Queensferry’s hills and often come as a ‘step through’ model idea for those who might be less mobile.
Want more information?
Edinburgh based information can be found at Spokes and national at Scotland’s National Cycling Charity – Cycling Scotland which will include information about Bikeability and adult cycle training.
Watch out for news on our official launch as well – hopefully on Saturday 5th October. Put the date in your diary!
