It has been a very busy summer at Dalmeny Kirk Cafe, with lots of activities, familiar faces, new customers, sunshine, rain and, of course, plenty of coffee!
Look out over the next few newsletters for updates on some of the specific events we have hosted over the summer.
We held two Gluten Free Days at the cafe, and this felt like a particularly good place to start with our ‘Free From’ days. Coeliac disease and other conditions requiring a gluten-free diet are particularly close to the hearts of quite a few of our cafe workers, so we wanted to create a day where everyone could enjoy a good selection of cafe favourites without having to worry about what was on the menu.
Nothing quite prepared us for just how busy it would be!
Gluten-free scones, cakes, rolls, soup and sweet treats – everything went! We rather lost count of the number of customers, but we estimate that around 150 people visited across the two days. The cafe donations were also a record high, with over £500 raised across the two days.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support us. I know that many of you travelled quite a distance to visit, which makes it even more special that you chose to spend your day with us.
And, of course, a massive thank you to everyone who baked, cooked and helped out in the cafe to make the days possible.
A special mention must go to Emma and Rebecca, who were both absolutely invaluable. They worked incredibly hard and, by the end of the second day, I reckon they were every bit as exhausted as I was!
Given the success of these days, keep an eye out for some more themed days coming up at Dalmeny Kirk Cafe. We may have started something!
