Doors Open – Dalmeny Church and Dalmeny Kirk Cafe

September 27, 2025 / 10:00 - 16:00
Free

Doors Open Day

Dalmeny Church is one of Scotland’s finest surviving Norman parish churches, built around 1160 by Gospatric III, Earl of Lothian. Stepping inside is like stepping back in time — its original stonework, intricate carvings, and centuries of history have been remarkably well preserved.

The church and its surrounding graveyard hold countless stories of the people who shaped the community across more than 850 years. From medieval earls to everyday parishioners, Dalmeny’s past is woven into its walls, memorials, and atmosphere.

Volunteers are always delighted to share the church’s fascinating history, guiding visitors through both its architecture and the tales of the people connected to it. For those wanting to dive deeper, a beautifully written history book is available, capturing the spirit of Dalmeny and the lives of those linked to the church and graveyard.

Dalmeny Kirk Cafe will also be on hand for that much need rest and chatter, serving cream teas until 3pm.

Books for Sale – Learn more with our beautifully written history books, available for just £5 each. Discover the stories of the church and the remarkable people connected to its past and graveyard.

There will also be a treasure trail for the kids to take part in too!
